Donate To VT

Village Theatre is heartbroken to announce that Dr. Frank Lockwood, one of our beloved founding members, died August 5 after battling COVID-19 for several weeks. “Dr. Frank” represented the best of VT. He was kind, supportive and full of endless energy on stage. He was also an amazing Family Care physician, highly regarded in his field throughout the City and State.

In the spirit of Dr. Frank’s compassion and generosity, his husband is requesting that anyone wanting to make a donation in Frank’s name may do so here.

All donations will go into a general fund that will create new improv and musical improv scholarships. Many of you may remember Dr. Frank’s amazing singing and lyrical abilities. In a video for VT’s 10th anniversary, Dr. Frank talked about why he got into improv and what VT meant for his legacy. We hope his words will bring you some comfort as we mourn the actor, doctor and friend we love so much.

Since 2008, we’ve been entertaining Atlantans (and even some Dora-Villians) with long and short form improv comedy multiple nights each week. We also enjoy playing graceful southern host to our comedy cousins of stand-up and sketch comedy.

Improv comedy is not a new concept. You may have seen it on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” or live on stages all over this country. But we can guarantee you haven’t experienced a show quite like one you will see at the Village Theatre. Most of our improvisers have at least five years of performance experience, with many having over ten.

Our players bring experience from everywhere, including a spectrum of “day jobs,” that ranges from commercial real estate to medicine to law, and computery type things. All of this experience becomes fodder for spontaneous comedy. We’ve all gathered at the Village Theatre to improvise with a goal of always leaving our audiences wanting more.

Another goal of ours is to provide Atlanta’s cultural community with a fresh and exciting venue to perform and laugh. Our shows are only $10 which allows us to be the most affordable entertainment options in the city.

Many thanks, and here's to laughter!
